A question for plinth builders.....a 301 level question.

On my three ROK idler plinths I discovered very quickly that there is a specific mass where the table sounds good, better and best.

I am awaiting an N-34 Rondine belt drive table and I am planning another custom plinth for this critter. Probably half way between a VPI outboard motor and a Teres creation.

Here are my specific plinth questions.

1. Does CLD do anything positive or negative to the overall sound quality of the belt drive tables?

2. Is it a good idea or a bad idea to build a suspended platform for this in an apartment plagued by vibration and resonance issues?

3. Would a skeletal hardwood platform sound equal to a CLD or box?

4. Does anyone know of a commercially available speed control device for a 125v motor or a decent diy kit?

5. Does dynamat or equivalent improve or ruin the sound of a cast alumininum top piece like the Rondine model?

6. With an outboard motor for a belt drive is it necessary to daisy or star ground the motor to the spindle and arm of the turntable. Or can I just do a three prong electrical plug on this and not worry about ground loop hum.

Thanks for whatever information you can add to this research.

I bought some gorgeous quilted maple for the main plinth pieces today. I plan to buy some more birch plywood as well.
