Re: Isonoe Footers

I have used them on my technics SL1200 for well over a year. Hardly high end I know but the feet were originally made for the Technics as a direct replacement for the stock feet. They are meant to improve immunity from feedback generated in the disco environment. I bought them because I liked the look of them and to see if they would improve rejection of vibration from the sprung wooden floor at home. I know I should the TT on a wall moounted bracket but the distaff side, she say NON!! Anyway, yes they do make a difference. The are meant to be placed directly on to a glass support. If one is not available they also make sorbothane cups and glass inserts to go into the sorbothane. Basically, the feet consist of a sorbothane cradle that provides the feedback resistance and small ball bearings in the base of the feet that provide point contact with the glass. They have proved popular over here (UK) with the DJ fraternity and are seen on many Technics on the club circuit. Kevin at KAB also stocks them as and extra for his range of SL1200s.

How do they affect sound? Difficult this one as that is not their function, they are just meant to improve isolation in a noisy environment. Of course this in itself helps clean up the sound and yes they do a great job but how many of the readers of this excellent assylum listen in such an environment, not many. They certainly worked in my home environment, cleaning up the sound to a greater degree than I would have expected but there is something else going on here that I still do not understand. The improvement (not huge or night and day, but still worthwhile) is still there when listening through headphones in the dead quiet of night. When every one has gone to bed and I just fancy an hour of solitude with a little music, I put on a vinyl through my GSP solo headphone amp and Grados 325i prestige headphones and the sound is magical. Is it the feet or is it just my relaxed state of mind. I do not know but I am pleased with the result and would not go back to the stock feet again.

As for high end, I am not sure. A better turntable is probably less dependant on its feet for isolation than the Technics. Give them a go. If they prove no good then I am sure local DJs will queue up to buy them from you.

One last thing, they don't half look cool!!
