A clarification on yesterday's post, re Ortofon stylus

Yesterday morning, I posted a post entitled, I think my Ortofon stylus is worn.

In it I described how a record that never gave me any problems tracking suddenly was horrible beyond use with the old Ortofon stylus.

And in that post, I didn't clarify the background on why it let things get this far and it I think lead to some assumptions, incorrect they may be to take place.

Let me just state that this past year and a half have been really rough financially for me. Work has not been stable, pay been poor and most of that temping while trying to find perm work and hopefully something within my skill set/career goals. Goals that now mean trying to revisit my video skills now that I have been able to accrue some basic equipment to go at it on my own, at least practice wise and to put together a reel, a portolio in video of some of my work etc. I have a way to capture analogue video, both new footage and older stuff I have had for a while, an old 8mm camcorder, Adobe Premiere Elements and a DVD burner to author DVD's if needed and to rip my camcorder footage, that's been transfered to DVD, thanks to my DVD recorder in the living room.

And to be completely honest, I had begun to think in the past 6 months, if not within the past 3 months in particular that I may have been on borrowed time with that old stylus. Now I know how far I was in reality. If I could, I'd have replaced that stylus 6 months to a year ago by now but could not as I could barely pay the rent, let alone bills most months.

Things are slowly getting better but that's it though. The opportuntiy came along at the time I actually had the money to be able to do so and I'm glad I went ahead and did so.

Also, I don't spin music as much as I used to, namely that my main rig is in the living room, and my PC, which I spend a lot of time at is in the bedroom and I often don't even have the TV on most nights either, and when I have spun vinyl, it's to capture some tracks for a CD project I've been working on for a while now off and on and outside of that, it's been the occasional album or simply a side and that's about it most days, if I even do that much.

I put this out there to clarify why I let things get this far and that it was not my intention to do so and that I do care about my vinyl a great deal.

And for the record, a lot of my stuff I got second hand and not all of it showed issues with the cart and what issues I had may have been due to damage previously done before I got it and that some of the symptoms of mistracking began very, very recently, like within the past week or two.

So there you all go.
