What can you do? If I had any idea, I would have started seriously hoarding 25 years ago. When I have a choice I take the LP over CD.
That said, there is some stuff that is just impossible, (without the deepest of pockets) to justify getting on wax. The music has to come first and therefore CD is often the only viable alternative. Try getting all that music on original Impulse or even 180 reissues and see what it rings up at.
Some CD's sound fantastic on my cheapo disc player. I have a Charlie Haden CD "Dream Keepers" on BlueNote that throws a soundstage as deep and layered as any LP I own.
And how else would I have ever realistically heard Duke Ellington records from the 30's and 40's? (Although I have debated getting into 78's)
So CD's have their place here in my house. If I wasn't invested in 30 years of vinyl I think I could live in the dark with CD's only.
regards, HJ
