Newbie question abt leadwires... side qstn abt Yamaha PX TTs

Is one supposed to crimp them on the cartridge leadwire mounts or just slide them over? So far things sound just fine, but they seem a bit loose without crimping...
Do people replace their leadwires for something better? I'm just using the leadwires attached to an old Micro headshell I'm using. If so, what are recommendations and sources for quality replacement leadwires
And for Yamaha PX-1, PX-2, and PX-3 owners... have you gotten improved results by changing or re-wring the tonearm cable?
