I just got my hands on a Gates CB-77 broadcast TT with idler wheel drive. This thing is solid aluminum, platter over 7 lbs., 1 inch diameter steel spindle in bronze bushing. Tone arm pivot is machined steel but tone arm is wood. Very cool. Motor is huge and the speed change mechanism has gates and brass heim-joint linkage like a Ferrari.
Has anyone ever messed with one of these? I will have to fashion a platform, if I keep it.Thanks for any info you can provide.
Pete
(Cartridge is kinda weird, all plastic with a big stylus, composition unknown. Cast aluminum headshell.)
