In Reply to: Ask again: What are the benefits and downsides on using ball bearing in Platine Verdier posted by Sea Monster on September 14, 2006 at 23:10:31:
I have started using the ball bearing right from the start based on recommendations from Holland. The idea is to let the ball bearing to carry a small load only, say 0.5 - 1kg (1 - 2lb). To do the adjustment properly, a machinist's dial meter is needed. Also, the plinth and axle base had to be modified to do the adjustment. The axle base has to be stationary to be able to fine adjust the screw under the turntable and then to lock the nut. I did not switch my Platine Verdier between the magnet only/bearing operation because of the effort needed for the bearing adjustment.TonyB
