In Reply to: How often does an equipment change lead to "dramatic, night and day" sound changes for you? posted by jsm on September 12, 2006 at 18:25:02:
Even with my first crappy system in my last house, the difference after I started playing with acoustic treatment was huge...as in having a sound stage, having better defined bass with less peaks and valleys, imaging improved immensely. In my new house with a much better system, I'm currently enjoying the hell out of employing much more extensive room treatments (beefing up on the bass traps even more) and the changes are once again very obvious and for the better. It's a different room with different challenges than before and I finally realized that what I was using before was not sufficient to what I need now. Of course, my tastes and ability to hear things that were not obvious to me before weigh in heavily. Nonetheless, I can't imagine anything more "night and day" than treating a room that is badly in need of help. The next most obvious changes were speakers, amp, and cartridge swapping. Now that the room is closer to ideal, I suspect differences between anything (if there were any) would be much easier to decipher. I'm all about room treatment :-)
