Yesterday I got a Cardas Neutral Reference interconnect cable that I picked up on Audiogon. To test the effect I put on a LP and listened to the first track. I replaced the Zu Gede with the Cardas between the Scout & the pre-amp and listened to the same track. I heard several things I had not heard before.Next I then took the Zu Gede that was removed from the Scout and put it between the amp & pre-amp (replacing the Zu Oxyfuel which is a model below the Gede). I played the same cut again and noticed even more things I had not heard before including John Coltrane's breath on the mouthpiece of his sax & the pluck of the bass strings (had the VTF just right!).
Now the Neutral reference cost $525 new versus $200 for the Gede and should sound better just as the Gede costs double the Oxyfuel and should be better. Both changes removed another veil and led to a surprisingly dramatic increase in transparency. Now I want to find a couple more Neutral Refs so that will be my only interconnect!
After the cable changes I cleaned the contacts on all of my interconnects with Caig Deoxit and then treated them with Pro Gold and did the same with the RCA jacks...this made for a more subtle difference but playing the same track did show some new things.
