Re: Any negative results from an Incognito rb300 rewire?

I did that rewire on my RB300. It was pretty straightforward to do, except you soldering on the cartridge clips are a bit tricky unless you have the right equipment to hold things while you do it.

I found very little difference sound, if any, between before and after. I could kick myself for not having made a CR-R of a record or two before and after so as not to have to rely on memory, but I thought of it too late. I did listen to records whose sound I was very familiar with, though, and reached the conclusion there wasn't any significant change. Virtually everybody else seems to have had the opposite experience: a big improvement.

I don't like the cartridge clips that come with the kit. The point of flexibility is at the base of the two prongs, which means that as they spread apart, an angle candevelop beteen them; they can be no longer parallel. That means if your cartridge pins are slightly larger in diameter than normal, the prongs could spread enough to make only an annular, line contact with the pins, potentially leading to higher contact resistance and a less secure connection. I much prefer a clip with pin contact along the entire length of the clip.
