**A new cart without proper break-in can make any turntable sound like a lifeless, computerized machine.

It may be a point to consider, but I consider too that I'm comparing it with an "Empire" cart., and a 25 year old Shure cart. So I think the problem is more likely to lie upstream, with either the table or the tonearm.
