OMalley: I'm not saying my Rega SUCKS to be inflammatory. I'm saying it SUCKS because it SUCKS. I remember reading comments from time to time about the Rega's sounding like a cd player, and that's what it sounds like. So I'm not sure if I just have a sucky sample, or if they really suck like this (unless you start piling on expensive commercial tweaks)."TIMBRE" is not weight. It's the tonal coloration that gives musical instruments/voices their true characteristics. Reduce it and things start to sound too much alike, and there goes your connection to the music. That's why a lack of timbre = a lack of "musicality". Just on paper, if not by the looks of it, an arm such as the RB-250 should yield excellent timbre, or at least v. good. That's not the case here, I find. BTW, I'd say the P2 has a lot more "weight" than the Thorens 150 (more powerful attack/dynamics, more authoritative bass, larger image, etc). But the Thorens has better timbre and so is more musical.
