Re: A question about Beatle albums....Stereo vs Mono Apple recordings.

All the copies of Sgt. Peppers that I have are lively and engaging recordings. Both the UK Stereo (YB Parlophone) and UK Mono (YB Parlone) that I have sound very ambiant and vivid, and so do the Capitol stereo versions that I have. With that in mind I can't recall listening to any version I have of Abbey Road and sensing that the recording is dull and flat. I've got AR in US, French, UK and Mo-Fi. All of them sound well recorded to me. I still haven't decided if I like the UK better than the Mo-Fi. They are different in character but each, to my ear, is a good listen. The Sgt. Peppers produced by Capitol, on the other hand, are bested by the UK pressings which have a different tonality, more inner details, more depth and more sparkle.

Link below to a Beatles UK discography. According to the link page Abbey Road was produced in Stereo only.

Btw --Rare Record Price Guide-- does not list a mono Abbey Road for 1969, only stereo. Yellow Submarine was offered both in mono and stereo that year. That doesn't mean that mono AR pressings don't exist, just that the book doesn't list them.
