It is fascinating how people equate LP experience with better times of their life....

And I am glad they do not just throw them out. I am picking up nearly entire collections some in NM or at least VG+ for a buck each at the thrift stores. Just thinking someone would toss these makes me sick to my stomache.

It takes so little time and money to build a great turntable from used parts, and even the electronics to do vinyl is reasonably priced that I would much rather spend my 2-5k over 5 years on used LPs and phono upgrades than plow it into CD's which will be replaced sooner or later with a new media upgrade/downgrade/or side step.
