Re: Cantilever Issues/Stylus Loose in Cart ?s

" I run a Shure V15 III on a Dual 701 w/a Shure VN35E stylus. I have a couple issues that are frustrating me. I know they may be solved by the purchase of a new stylus, but I would prfer not to go the Jico/Generic route if I dont have to, and I definitely can not afford a NOS Shure stylus. "

You must not have read the JICO stylus reports, as you apparently equate the JICO Styli with the Standard Generics, as far as the generics go, I couldn't agree more, as why piss away your money on a
cheap bonded conical with an even cheaper cantilever that doesn't even attempt to approximate the given original cartridge compliance spec's, resulting in a excellent classic cartridge like your V15 III
now being able to basically track the groove and produce output
but for the same $35+ paid for the Generic Stylus you could have bought an AT 95 or 110 etc. cartridge which will smoke any cartridge with a generic replacement stylus, as no matter how wonderful the original cartridge is or was, it's now just a half assed non engineered castrated parts mutt.

The JICO's have proven themselves to be a different animal, they have at least equivalent quality of the original styli they're replacing, and in the case of their upscale SAS stylus replacement
which has a Boron cantilever and their SAS proprietary fine line stylus which is apparently better than the original Shure MR, people running the JICO SAS on V15 III's reports are universally enthusiastic, as at the very least as good as the original, most however find the JICO SAS superior.

So IMHO it seems like a no brainer, for less $ than an original Shure Elliptical with ancient suspension, and the risk of getting boned by unscrupulous Sleaze bay sellers on a cleaned up worn out and or tweaked Stylus.

In your particular case, if the cantilever is loose as you noted you're almost certainly attriting your records from one degree to another, which doesn't seem particularly wise, a severe example of a Dollar chasing a dime / tripping over your dick type strategy.

I'd advise firing up the Archive and reading the JICO user evaluations or at the very least, replacing your V15 III with a competent less expensive cartridge like the aforementioned AT's until you can secure a an original Shure replacement, as ultimately your collections value greatly exceeds the cost of numerous styli no matter how expensive.
