It's the REAL DEAL, it's Corpodroid Marketting Bullshit

And unfortunately this sort of thing is anything but rare, in the Business World, apparently it's just taken till now to filter into
the peripheral Niche Industry's.

If you think that because some idiotic tactic like Ortofon's disenfranchisement of KAB is illogical, counter productive and yes even absurd, you'd be absolutely correct on every point ! but if you think that Corporate Idiocy on that level means it's probably not real you've apparently just come into the Big City on a Turnip Truck ;-)

Perhaps, you should take a few hours to look at outfits like GM and Ford and down the line, look at their various moves, tactics and stratagems over the last couple of decades and then look at the shape they're now in,(Fudged Balance Sheets) after queering their own strongest market segments and running their own primary / critical suppliers into Ch.7. the one thing they've done that I didn't think was possible, was they actually overestimated the sheer ignorance and stupidity of the American Consumer :-0 Who'd a thunk it ;-)

In non Micro Economic layman's terms it's called the Chickens coming home to roost, as their unbridled avarice, amorality and arrogance has steadily attrited them down to the point of questionable survival, Karmic Levelling at it's best !

All kidding aside I witnessed a good share of my former long term clients going through exacly this sort of thing (Variations on the same theme) over the last 15 years.

Hi Fred,
Well first came the company directive that all Ortofon dealers must show list prices in all advertising; that was July 1 2004.
Now, I was informed yesterday, that since I promote the '1200 to audiophiles and do not sell any of the "audiophile approved" tables, I am defined as a non audiophile company and will no longer have my Purchase Orders honored for hi fi products.
I can still sell DJ products, but as most of you know, I do little of that beyond the integrated Concordes we make for the '1200.
So, yesterday on AA I read about the great deals being offered by Mr Juki- Hong Kong and Mr Thacker- Ebay(Both of whom I do not know) and wonder: "How is any authorized US dealer for Ortofon, going to succeed?" All I can see is more sales leaving the USA or being conducted on Ebay. We are pretty smart shoppers that way.
As I understand it Ortofon beleives the brand has been dilluted by discounters such that the posh hi end shops would not sell it.
This new strategy is to separate DJ from Hi Fi in an attempt to isolate the market exposure to strictly hi end shops. This is being enforced in Canada to the extent that there are no internet stores allowed to sell Ortofon Hi Fi! And if a dealer carries DJ products he cannot carry the hi fi products. Pretty strict rules. Maybe this is done by other hi end companies, I do not know, but it seems overly protective to me.

As you know I have a company policy not to post on user groups, So I will leave it up to you if you want to share this with the group. I will post the same info on our info page on the website just to alert everyone.
