Well, how about this.
These four styli were all photographed at 200x. The first three were maintained using normal stylus cleaning methods similar to yours. Note the blackish tip discolorations from acquired vinyl deposits.
The ZYX stylus at lower right was maintained using the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser/dry brush method. As can be seen, there is little if any tip discoloration. The Magic Eraser works better.
I find the stylus size and shape differences interesting too. It's worth noting that the ZYX's micro-ridge contact area is so small that it's barely discernible even at 200x. That little white highlight near the tip is the only portion of the stylus that touches the vinyl.
