The Shure SFG-2 gets a clean bill of health from me

Taking Shane's advice below, I made up a little jig like the one Wally Malewicz uses with his scale. This just involved cutting up a small platic ruler and using a blob of blutack for ballast.
Here it is, levelled at the record height and zeroed - ready to weigh:

Here it is measuring the VTF.
When measuring at this position, I observed no consistent variation with antiskate applied/defeated. This reading is typical, but variations (typically +/-0.01g) were observed. These scales are extremely sensitive, so care must be taken to get repeatable measurements.

So basically my results indicate that the Shure's reading (~2.06g) is within 0.05g of the reading given by the digital meter. Probably good enough for most people. I don't think you can ask for better than that from a simple balance scale. Reading from the Shure is a bit of a fiddle - but the digital meter also demands care in placement/level etc to get consistent results.
Of course this is only a sample of '1' from each of the devices under test and exact accuracy of the digital meter is open to question (though it was calibrated with the 50g weight). However my paper weighing test below makes me fairly confident that the scales are quite accurate at low weights.
I do find it comforting that the two scales pretty much agree with each other.
