The core and coils in a MC are enclosed _within_ the magnetic system, while the core and coils in an MM _surround_ the magnet / iron. Therefore, the electrical system in an MC is physically much smaller than it will be in an MM, and therefore the capacitance, inductance and reactance, electrical Q, phase response etc. will be very different.

My friends Yoshihisa Mori at Sony published some interesting articles on the electrical characteristics and problems arising from different physical topologies for MM cartridges around 1980. His goal was to make an MM with enough output voltage to be used with lower-quality phono stages (such as the ones included with integrated amplifiers) but with electrical properties that were closer to MCs.

If you do a search, look for the XL-70 and its "Delta Core".
