Re: DENON DP-2000 (2500, 2550) unstable speed

Thanks for your answer. I did several checks.
1) I removed the platter an looked at the magnetic stipe, no sign of damage. I also repositionned the magnetic head as you suggested. I had no real hope that this would do any good as the small jerks in speed are very regular. I clocked them at 1.85 Hz (110 per minute)and are not clearly related to the platter speed (0.55 Hz). It looks like the motor servo circuit oscillate. If it were the magnetic head or the magnetic stripe, it would be either once per turn or erratic.
2)I openned the under cover and looked at the two boards, no sign of loose components. I unplugged are replugged each connector to take care of possible oxidation of the contacts, in vain.

I think its a problem in the electronic side of the servo loop (not the speed sensor)and make me think of the "motor boating" syndrom of tube amps due to bad capacitors, but there are tons of electrolytic caps in this machine!. It could also be a weak motor power supply (its related) though the plater locks its speed in about 1 turn (at 331/3 rpm)so there is torque when needed. It is not a bad platter bearing either as the platter spins freely when pushed by hand when powered off.

I'll email you for discussing possible "exchanges"
