Re: Another Alignment Question

Beating a dead horse here, I realise.....

First of all, defeat (turn off) any anti-skating force prior to mucking about with alignment. Leaving the anti-skating force set can induce errors which obviously will be greater in direct proportion witht he amount of anti-skating force being applied.

Always align the cantilever with the grid of whatever tool you're using.....whether it is a Soundtraktor or any other grid-type jig. It is not uncommon for individual cartridges to be constructed such that their cantilevers are not precisely in alignment with the cartridge body. Therefore, aligning the cartridge body will almost always be a pointless waste of time.

In particular, I have run across a number of Van DenHul Frogs which have cantilevers significantly out of kilter when compared to their bodies. However, they are not lone examples of this. One can probably root through a collection of any given cartridge and find a number which are out of sorts in this regard. It is the nature of any hand-built device to have certain model-to-model variations. It means nothing in terms of quality or function as long as they are mounted and aligned properly.
