Technics SL-1900

24.22.114.240

My grandaughter's hubby called me a few weeks ago. He had two free turntables to choose from. One was the Technics, and the other, I didn't even recognise the make (or cart), so I advised him to take the Technics. It had the Stanton 680EE on it. I offered to dial it in for him and took it home with me. The cart looked a bit used, but sounded good. I set the VTF at 1G, corrected the alignment with the HFN protractor, and ran it through all the tracks on the test record. Everything looked good, but it couldn't track the torture track, which I expected. The cueing lift wouldn't work, solved by cleaning and lube.

Overall, I'm fairly impressed with the build quality of this TT. Being an automatic DD, it does make a good starter table for the "uninitiated" listener who did not grow up with vinyl.

I'm a little surprised that a search here yields few postings about it and a search on ebay results in only one completed auction.

Is this just not a very popular model in the Technics line, or were few produced? If anyone here is currently using this table, I'd like to hear your comments on it, and what cart are you using with it?
Thanks
