Newbie needs help with Thorens!

Hi All
Just bought a Thorens TD160 deck which appears to be in pretty good shape. I am new to turntable servicing and tweaking so was wondering if any of you had a newbie guide to servicing the TD160? It is totally standard as far as I can see, it has the original Thorens tonearm.
I have noticed a few problems so far - firstly it is noisy on 45 speed setting and the platter only goes for a few revolutions when switched off. As I understand it it should rotate freely for some time.
Any help and advice would be much appreciated
