No doubt, the Aires bass is a bit soft but extended. I have a original Aires w/jmw 10 AT oc9/bent audio Mu /Cat Ultimate preamp. I have lived with this rig for a while and it seems like every change I make (tubes , ic, pc, cart.,) I have to live with bass problems that last a while. I can't say if it is all in my head or actual. But, I did add a Neuance isolation platform and I haven't had that problem since.( Just about 6 months though) I'm planning on getting a Shelter 901 to balance out that warmth. My analog guru Brian Hartsell from the analog room here in San Jose has suggested that and also the Helicon SL as a good balance to the warmth of the Aires. It IS the sonic signature of that table though and imho, for all the other great things this table does, I can live with it until I have a spare 10-20 grand around for a Brinkman balance or SME 20/30 which from what i have heard personally, will make a significant upgrade. BYW, CJ Premier 140, Mag. 1.6qr, VH silver, Airsine,Jaden sig. speaker cable, Purist Venustra phono cable rounds out the analog rig.
