These arms all share the same geometry, but a straight arm does it with less tubing (the shortest distance). I believe the idea behind an S/J arm is that the arm may resist tortional forces more if it enters the headshell in line with the cartridge, and enters the suspension in line with it as well. It seems most high end arms are straight, though.I'd love to read more on this myself.
