It's very hard to diagnose at a distance, but I had a similar problem. After having a chance to compare mine visually with another, I determined the the stylus assembly was not properly inserted into the body and the cartridge was riding too high. Properly set up, the body should be riding pretty low. Also, when set up properly and at a reasonable tracking weight, the cantilever should be seen coming out from near the middle of a gold circle when the stylus is resting on a mirror, as for HTA adjustment. Mine wasn't. I sent mine back and when it looked right, it sounded right.From time to time the Shelters have had QC issues.
