AL - Couldn't agree more, most Stylus exams are next to worthless
unless they're being performed by someone with some serious knowledge and experience, and the serious guys will readily admit
that unless they've seen the stylus early in it's life the verdict is suspect, anything but definitive.
Alot of folks look at the stylus profile under a lower magnification and think the wear is going to be apparent in the form of grooves or some obvious change in the profile, about all you're going to see that way is gross malformities like a cracked or shattered stylus.
It's the reflections the symetrical lengthening wear pattern with distinct edges is good, asymetrical blocky looking wear patterns with fuzzy borders is bad.
An oversimplification but usefullRegards FredJ
