I happened to be doing some moulding today so I thought I'd have a go at making a replacement on/off switch for my Garrard 301. I made a nice silicone mould of the top of the speed selector knob, no problems. Next I needed a strong, smooth, black thermoplastic resin, so I tried the most obvious candidate.Don't try this at home. In theory PVC melts before it decomposes but in practice the heat transfer through the melt is quite poor and the decomposition products of PVC can be quite toxic. I ight try a microwave next - although I don't actually own one.
