Andyr is correct. On early LP12s the adhesives used were insufficient for hot, humid climates, and plinths could split or, in some cases, fall apart.

My advice is if you have an old plinth and it has not split or fallen apart by now it is not likely to so forget it. There is no improvement in sound to be had.
