I'm assuming that the 901 and 501 have similar compliance numbers. If that is true, you are correct and the match is not according to Hoyle. That said, I really liked my Shelter 901 on my JMW10, particulary the bass, and will probably go back that way when my current cartridge (Lyra Helicon SL, better match on paper, better midrange, less excitement, less suited to my particular taste)gives up the ghost.
