Progress on the Rek

Making good progress on restoration of my second Rek-o-Kut L-34. If any of you are into restoring old TT's, I have one warning thought I'd pass along. Though this TT ran when I first got it, close inspection of the wires to the motor showed that the old insulation was cracked, frayed, and in places bare wire exposed. Since I have the deck completely disassembled right now, I went ahead and put heat shrik over the lenght of the wires, but had I not looked, it was an accident waiting to happen.
I will say this old gal is shining up nicely. I've been cleaning off years of nicotine and oxidation, cleaning all the rubber bushings, etc. The only snag is that an earlier owner apparently must have screwed around with this some because I'm missing one, kind of important spring. Guess what, you can't get a replacement at the loacl Home Depot or auto parts store... If there is a remote chance anyone has one, I'd be happy to work something out. This is the spring that goes on the motor sub chassis and holds it to the main chassis. It is about 0.5" dia, about 3/4 long and probably uses about 6-7 lbs of compression. Looks like McMaster-Carr has a close sub, but not exact.
The other little snag is that the previous owner put electrical tape along the inside of the rim of the platter. My guess is so it had better idler traction. But I have no idea how to get the residue off. Thought of sanding it, but don't want to wreck the platter. Any ideas out there?
Thanks!
