Ortofon vs. Shure

69.119.218.195

I had considered the Ortofon OM-10 and maybe that would have been a better choice. My new Shure M97 is still sitting in its box, waiting to be mounted, but when I looked it over it was obvious that quality control at the Mexican Shure operation is a problem. For one thing, the cantilever is offset a bit from the front of the body, making the white stylus cueing mark imprinted on the front of the brush housing useless. For another, the infamous Shure brush is unevenly trimmed, meaning that only parts of it would make contact with the record. The latter doesn't concern me too much as I plan on keeping the brush retracted and out of harm's way (I still remember hearing the pre-echo from my old V15's brush), but don't you think they could manage to make a brush with a reasonably flat edge?
