My Cat Has an Aversion to Digitally Reproduced sound

I have a three-year-old Burman cat. It’s a good companion and seems to like music, which is good because when I am home there is always music playing. When it is time to do some critical listening she sits in my lap, gets a little upset when it’s time to turn the side over or put another disc on, but she typically settles back in place.

In the last few weeks I’ve noticed something I should have noticed a long time ago. When I put on a CD she leaves the room. She will sit through multiple sides of vinyl, but once a CD is on she promptly leaves the room, tail in the air. I’ve tried variations on this finding the last week or so. Sure enough, when it’s digital she goes away.

Last night a friend brought over an MP3 player and we hooked it up to my system. Within 30 seconds cat and owner left the room. Has anyone out there noticed animal aversion to digitally reproduced sound?
