An analog wave form is curving, digitizing it attempts to fill the area under the wave with rectangular "bars" that come close to fully matching the area but it would take such small samples (bar sizes) to approximate the wave shape that it would be impossible to fit all the data samples on a CD. So the engineers might have to eliminate data that is outside the hearing threshold and audio reproduction threshold of most ears and equipment. Maybe that has something to do with it?
