Vinyl at CES

Who says that vinyl is dead? You surely wouldn't have known at this year's CES show. It seemed that at least 30%, if not over half, of the exhibitors were spinning the big black discs.

One of the more interesting items was the moddified Empire 208 found in the Atma-Sphere/CAR room. Ralph Karsten replaces the plinth with a new one milled from solid aluminum and claims that it'll match up to anything made today and that nothing today has as good a motor. I'll leave that to others, but with the Triplanar arm, this baby sounded great.

In case you missed it earlier, Jonathan Carr was showing a production sample of a new phonostage dubbed the Erodian with a target price under 4,000. JC hopes to have this product available around Arpil. It'll support most lower output cartridges and will give us a taste of his hi-end phono for less than the cost of an exotic car.

The Imedia RPM-1 was playing music with a new Lyra cartridge, the Titan, $4,500. As always, with the Audio Physic speakers and Connoisseur frontend, it sounded quite good.

And if art deco is your thing....

Try the Vyger Indian Signature model priced at $32,000 with the vacumn option. Sure you could save $3,000 by passing on the vacumn, but naw, that just wouldn't be right.

Or for a more down to Earth product, the Teres Audio table was found in the Cain & Cain room and can handle your gooves for around a tenth the price of the Vyger.

Music Hall also had their entire line up. Here's the MMF-9:
