Yes, it took a good 40 hrs to break in the cartridge. As for being laid back, it may be the table. I really only noticed it on one soundtrack, where a couple ofspot that used to jarr me aren't quite as jarring. I don't mind tho-its only in comparison to my old rig.If it has to err, i would rather it erred in the laid back direction, than the opposite:-)

Yes, the dynamic shading is much better

yes, but speed may not be an issue-might just be output(sheer volume-like a high powered amp). The Grado puts out 4.5 mV!
