RE: Here's (hears) my two cents worth... (long)

I agree with this respondent. I listen to a lot of classical music and opera. I began collecting recordings seriously in the mid-60s, long before CDs came out, so LPs were my primary choice. When CDs came out, I bought a CD player and CDs. For me, in addition to good sound, the primary appeal of LPs is the wide variety of material that is not available in any other medium. There are many LPs in my collection that are not available in any other format.
In addition, the delights of LPs include cover art and the often insightful essays on the work, composer or performer that add greatly to my listening pleasure. I cannot imagine listening to streaming opera without a libretto and notes that come with LPs.
I am very fortunate to live near a huge vinyl outlet (Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh) where very reasonably-priced classical music and operatic LPs are available at very reasonable prices.
To fully enjoy your LPs over the long run, I think you will need a good-quality turntable and cartridge and a record cleaning machine. Both can be had used online at reasonable prices.
Good luck!
