RE: Weight of any Rega Tonearm, please!

Please clarify your question which will help the answer.

Is your new arm a Rega? You say the new arm " uses a Rega mount" which implies that it is not actually a Rega and therefore the weight of actual Rega arms may not be relevant. It is very difficult to find the weight. I have a vague memory of 420g but this is not reliable and I think may relate to my Rega based Audiomods series 5 arm.

None of the Rega arms uses a 3 point mount as far as I am aware. All use a single hole with a large retaining nut below. Do you mean 3 point cartridge and not arm mount?

EDIT: Ah yes, 3 screws and the hole.

If you have a Gyro then why drill out an exisitng mount when Michell supply correct mounts (including correct weight) for a great variety of tonearms and have been known to make custom ones when the stock ones prove unsuitable. Michell is not a company that charges huge amounts of money.

Which brings me to the status of the Gyro that you have. Are the armboard standoffs metal or plastic and are they drilled through so as to take a full length bolt or are they drilled part way from each end requiring two fixing bolts? In the latter case there should be a grounding link wire.

The reason why I am asking the latter question is that later versions do not connect the armboard plate directly to the subchassis as this transmits a bass resonance back through to the cartridge. If you are going to change the mounting plate then I suggest giving the standoffs some attention at the same time if you have the earlier version. Worthwhile IMO and, again, not a king's ransom to buy.
