RE: How to calculate gain level?

If I understand the specs, the cartridge's voltage output voltage is increased from 4mV to 150mV, under otherwise identical conditions. This is a voltage gain factor of 37.5:1

The dB gain = 20*log (V2/V1) = 20 * log 37.5 = 31.5dB

That is a little low for a phono stage but likely won't give you any problems. Anyhoo, there's a lot of other factors at play that affect the sound quality (such as the overload sensitivity of the phono preamp at low frequencies- often a problem for modest phono preamps). You may find you have to turn the amplifier's volume control up for the turntable versus the CD player. For example, if your amp's line-level input sensitivity is around 400mV, that implies it needs the volume control to be set about 8-9dB higher for your 150mV preamp to achieve the same sound level.
