The problem with digital sound isn't so much in the mastering process (not these days at least - it was pretty poor in the early days of digital mastering), it's largely the playback devices which limit the technology's capabilities. Have you ever heard a Linn CD12 CD player, or a Naim CD-555 CD player? They make CDs sound amazing. Makes you pretty much forget all about the limitations of digital.
I have some LPs with were digitally mastered which sound glorious. Give them a chance. Bad sound from an LP isn't always because it went through a digital mastering process. There are plenty of crap-sounding LPs with are all analog too.
