Omnivore OVLP-198, 180-gm vinyl twin disc set. The pressings are quite good in terms of being flat and quiet. The overall sound feels like a mediocre CD though; it's lacking in dynamics and image quality. Comparing, for example, this recording of "River People" to the original studio recording on Weather Report's "Mr. Gone," the latter makes your hair stand on end, this one-- the cymbals sounding kind splatty, the drums cardboard-y, it just isn't as engaging.
In its defense though, "Portrait of Tracy" is a fine track. By comparison, the 1976 self-titled LP it originally appeared on is pretty terrible.
For my money, they could have left Side 4's weirdly-chosen 'tribute' tracks blank and cut the price 25%!I bought my album at the local Ell-pee-hut to keep them alive-- it was like hitting a sacrifice fly... BTW the movie isn't bad, its on Netflix, but I wouldn't invest in a copy - the sound quality is likewise mediocre and like all rockumentaries, too much talkin', not enough playin'.
