Its funny, after I posted this I did the quick math. There were only 8 UHQRs, 8 x 50 = 400 So there are only 400 or so people in the world who would have had a super low (below 50) number UHQR and might have seen this.
I wanted to see if this is an urban legend, or if someone may know. Years ago I kept hoping I'd come across a collection of sealed UHQRs, then I see the ink on the spine is Gold not Red. Boy that would put you in a heck of a negotiation position wouldn't it. You'd know these albums were worth at least 2x normal price. Gosh you could probably get a lot more than that.
As a courtesy I should explain about UHQRs for those who don't know. Back in the early 1980's Mobile Fidelity produced a line of Ultra High Quality Recordings (UHQR). These were 200 gram 1/2 speed masters and were each given the white glove treatment on all levels and packaged in a distinctive sturdy black box. They sound incredibly good and are quite desireable. From what I've seen, they are still going for >$100 each, the more desireable titles like Dark Side of the Moon (DSOM) go for many times that. A sealed DSOM can be worth >$1000. In the spirit of perfection they limited the run of each of the 8 titles to 5,000 units. Each was sequentially numbered, which is displayed on each records inserts. Of course the lower the number the better it is going to sound, that's where this is comming from.
