diana

live in paris is quite special to me. as i was attracted to her i also felt that she was too perfectly polished in the early albums i had gotten good but in a way; too perfect. jeff hamilton and john clayton (a wonderful person in my estimation) had overproduced the albums to flawless perfection.

that's what bothered me and i wanted to see a more human source of the music. quite surprisingly, it happened on its own, i saw her perform on the pbs series 'sessions at west 54th'. there she was. ALIVE and showing it with ever so slight imperfections (tousled hair, little bits of timing that wasn't metronomic. a HUMAN performing in a most enticing way she was.

live in paris was later released and again, a live person was performing and captivated me. i gave out xmas presents of that dvd that year and i still marvel over it. that Al Schmidt engineered it was a feather in that cap, the sound and musical presentation is second to none.

notice that lyn stanley ALSO employed the master, Al Schmidt and that plus the choice of great accompanying musicians, did make the instrumental part of her performances shine brilliantly.

i am hoping that lyn can develop into the artist she aspires to be.
...regards...tr
