RE: KAB EV-1 in the house, and a question...

Hi, popsy,

Congratulations on purchasing one of the true bargains in vinyl cleaning accessories. Use your own vacuum cleaner and save money.

I'm with bcowen, I do a final rinse and vacuum with distilled water to make sure the residue from the cleaning cycle is removed. For really grungy records I'll pre-clean them with a an inexpensive felt brush and a DIY spray solution of all-in-one cleaning fluid and a bit of alcohol. That way I don't contaminate the cleaning brush and RCM with excess dirt.

I believe it's worth the extra time spent rinsing LPs. In fact, I use two MoFi brushes, one for cleaning and one for rinsing. That way I don't contaminate the brush used for rinsing with the dirt brought up from cleaning, especially used LPs. If I only purchased new records I wouldn't bother with the second brush but since I purchase more used LPs than new, I want to make sure that the crud from used records is completely removed.

And if you really want to improve the vacuuming efficiency of your EV-1, you can add suction holes on both sides of the vacuum slot. Unless, KAB has modified their EV-1 design, you'll find there are only suction holes on one side of the slot. I added holes to the other side and found that the felt pads stay much drier, with fewer rotations of the LP needed to get it completely dry. Here's my post with instructions...

Modifying the EV-1

Regards,
Tom
