Follow up re polish on LP surface

A week or so ago I posted a question regarding a possible substance like a polish applied to used records by some Ebay sellers. In my case, I am pretty sure it was not the seller who applied the substance and he gave me a refund in any case. However, I wanted to follow up my original comment by saying that there was definitely something on the record because I noticed a few days later that my stylus had accumulated an unusual amount of gunk and loose hairs which did not come off completely with my usual dry brush routine. And I was getting some distortion on records I knew were not distorted. Fortunately, I was able to get rid of the mess by brushing the stylus with some denatured alcohol. I don't normally use any wet cleaners on my stylus and I am especially cautious about alcohol, but in this case it did the trick.
