RE: Cherry

I agree that Cherry seems a good choice for armboard materials.
ime, Cherry is often warped and requires planing not only to size it but to straighten out the all-to-common warp. Apart from that added step and expense, Cherry is one of my choices.

That said, I also find that manufactured woods like particle board and MDF and those in-between also make a good choice and at lower expense. Example, mdf with Cherry veneer just might sound a tad better than the solid piece of Cherry. But there is a strong negative perception with regard to the above. Then again, it isn't always just about the sound, it can be about the aesthetics that adds to the pleasure.

Another thing; if you find that your solid hardwood armboard results in a sound somewhat lacking in bass....mdf will often times offer lots of bass.
