Edit: Thanks so much for your kind words, my social graces, or more like the lack there of, makes this edit necessary.I'm no expert, but it seems like true 3 phase power, With an old Paspt motor, has a lot going for it. To me, the design of this fine motor, just begs for 3 phase power. VFD is just gravy. The torque from the motor, was a big time improvement. From what I feel, the camming effect was much less, but someone should measure the noise to know for sure. I don't have the equipment, but pretty sure it isn't my imagination.
Of course the best way to minimize noise is to not make it in the first place (your point). That, and the idea that I can tune the motor, to pretty close to the exact speed, as well as eliminate any mechanical processes, to change speed, are the reasons I've gone down this path. I wouldn't know this motor is running if I couldn't see it.
I'll be glad to share any and all info I have with this, once I feel I have it right (very close).
I have some totally outside the box ideas on mechanical damping as well, but I'll explore that madness later, when I actually build the TT. 8-)
