Play grading is great for those of us that actually listen to a record but there are folks that collect LP's who have no intention of spinning it and may not even have a TT. I can understand how some collectors, flippers and investors may tend to value an album's visual condition over its playability so unless you want to limit your market to music lovers, its best to cover all the bases and add a visual grade.
I once came across a collection of jazz records and found 10-15 early Blue Note albums that were in excellent condition but there was no record to be found inside. I asked/begged the owner to look around for the missing LPs but that proved fruitless so I left the covers behind. I ended up buying 50-60 records and am sure he would've just thrown in the covers but I didn't even bother to ask which looking back, I kinda regret now as I haven't seen most of those original BN's in the wild since.
