RE: Nostalgia for Vinyl or Not

IMO, if we were being absolutely honest, most of us would admit there is a significant element of nostalgia to it, though that alone wouldn't be enough to turn most of us into collectors.
Leaving aside SQ, record cover art, and the music itself, much of which was never reissued digitally, there is another strong element of nostalgia you see here every day in VA. Look at the time, money and effort put into optimizing LP replay. Michael Fremer has made a whole cottage industry out of it, and it's the number one topic here in VA. Cartridges, tonearms, pre-amps, modifications, rebuilding turntables or even building them almost from scratch -- it harkens back to the endless, though far less expensive and probably less successful, efforts we made when we were kids.
Even people not interested in modding or vintage rehabbing still deal with stylus wear and replacement, and of course, upgrades. If you grew up a true LP nerd, it would be tough to accept a pure plug it in and forget about it convenience of digital, at least all the time. I mean, where's the challenge in that?
