RE: Record organization

FWIW, I organize according to genre. Fortunately my collection consists mostly of classical, opera and jazz with a few rock, bluegrass, etc. The jazz is grouped alphabetically by performer as is the rock, etc. However, while I sort the classical by composer, I arrange it chronologically. So Bach is next to Vivaldi and Telemann, Mozart before Beethoven, etc. That way if I want to listen to Baroque or Romantic, I can select from the same physical area. I also tend to group by instrumentation within a composer (symphonies, piano sonatas, violin sonatas, etc) although I am not very good at maintaining the order. I keep the opera separate.
Given all that a lot a times I close my eyes and just pull out an album at random.
